The Opportunity
An opportunity to become a valued menber of the Child Disability team which is led by Associate Professor Helen Leonard and Dr Jenny Downs and undertakes a comprehensive and varied range of projects relating to child disability and rare paediatric disorders.
The Role
We are seeking a dynamic Senior Research Officer to oversee our rare disease program in association with other team members. The program currently involves the maintenance of international databases for two rare intellectual disability disorders, Rett syndrome and CDKL5 disorder. This challenging and exciting role will suit an individual with a passion for improving the lives of this often neglected sector of the population.
The role involves:
- Taking overall responsibility for coordination of two international rare disease studies;
- Overseeing the administration of the longitudinal component of these studies including development and administration of questionnaire, testing of web capture systems, obtaining of ethics approvals, monitoring of response and follow-up strategies;
- Initiating, drafting and editing materials including research reports, ethics applications, information sheets, website content and lay summaries;
- Taking responsibility for or delegating data management tasks; and
- producing publications pertaining to the research.
The successful candidate will have:
- A PhD or Masters Degree in health sciences/clinical discipline or equivalent.
- A proven track record as author on peer reviewed publications
- High level data management and analytic skills
- Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to work with families of children with a severe disability
- Ability to set goals, manage multiple priorities, take initiative, work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be accountable in a positive manner
- Demonstrated experience in building relationships and working collaboratively with families and/or clinical/research teams across multiple projects or sites
- Flexibility in working with an international study participant group some of whom may not speak English.
