Bioresources Technician

The role will include breeding and husbandry of experimental rodents. There will be some weekend work and administration related tasks.

The Bioresources technician is responsible for the daily care of research animals including animal husbandry, environmental monitoring & enrichment, record keeping welfare checks and facility sanitation.

We are looking for dynamic and team-orientated person to work in our Bioresources team. This role will suit someone with prior experience in breeding of rodents, maintenance of experimental models of rodents and basic injection techniques. The role will be mostly husbandry based with some administration duties included.

Essential criteria for the role:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar position
  • Certificate  Animal Technician, Diploma Animal Technology or similar
  • Working knowledge with rodents, breeding systems and animal husbandry  
  • Understanding of the importance of animal welfare
  • Proficient in animal handling and basic animal procedures
  • Sound administrative skills, including sound computer literacy and database management experience
  • knowledge of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (2013)
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy boxes and equipment  
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision

This role will include being part of a weekend roster, working at two different facilities and some facility sanitation. This is a full time position fixed term for one year with the possibility of extension. This position is required to be on a weekend and public holiday roster for 3 hours each day in addition to normal hours. Remuneration package includes access to generous salary packaging.
 
The successful candidate will need to provide a National Police check before commencement.
