Biostatistician, Infectious Disease Implementation Research

The Implementation Research Team, within the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases aims to be at the cutting edge of methods to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of new and existing treatments. Our work spans Bayesian adaptive clinical trials, observational comparative effectiveness studies, signal detection and real-time monitoring systems, transmission modeling and Bayesian network analysis.

We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious and skilled individual to be part of an energetic and interdisciplinary research team. The key objective of the role is to support to the senior biostatistician through:

  • Carrying out analyses (data handling, modelling, reporting etc.) on Implementation Research team projects
  • Providing study design advice and/or grant writing support to researchers in the Implementation Research team
  • Contributing, where applicable, to research support activities (ethics applications, training, resource management)

Candidates with an experience in, or an interest in developing skills in, Bayesian analysis including hierarchical models, adaptive clinical trials and/or network analysis will looked upon favourably.
The dynamic working environment requires candidates to have strong organisational skills and to work productively in a team setting.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  1. Experience in statistical analyses, interpretation and presentation of complex and/or large datasets of health data
  2. Experience with statistical software packages (preferably R) for the manipulation and analysis of data
  3. Ability to work in a team environment
  4. Good time and project management skills and ability to take responsibility for own work
  5. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and ensure work is of high quality
  6. Willingness to learn new technologies and techniques

This is a full time fixed term position, for 12 months with the possibility of extension. Remuneration package includes access to generous salary packaging.

The successful candidate will have to present a current National Police Check before commencement.
