Biostatistician Respiratory Health

The Opportunity

The biostatistician provides statistical support and guidance in respiratory disease (primarily cystic fibrosis), including the design of epidemiological and clinical studies.

You will work with a world class research team to analyse study data and report results, as well as have the opportunity to develop and apply novel analytical methods. You will work with complex datasets including longitudinal clinical, omics and big data and you will work with bioinformaticians and systems biologists.

This is a full time role fixed term for 12 months.

The Role

Provision of statistical guidance and support to the Respiratory research team

Provision of grant application support and advice

Co-chairing of the ARESTCF data management group

Presentation of research findings to internal and external meetings, seminars and conferences

The Experience

 

  • Experience in the application of statistical methods to the analysis of health data
  • Experience with one or more statistical software packages (e.g. R, STATA, SAS, SPSS) for manipulation and analysis of data
  • Interest in the application of statistical methods to the analysis of health and biological data
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and contribute to a harmonious and motivated work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and ensure work is of high quality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Track record of co-authoring scientific publications
  • Familiarity with the design and analysis of randomised controlled trials
  • Familiarity with modern classification and regression techniques or any form of data mining
  • Familiarity with the modelling of hierarchical and/or longitudinal data.

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement. Remuneration will be within $85,000 - $105,000 per annum dependant on experience which includes access to generous salary packaging.
