research assistant bunbary child health

Location: Bunbury, WA

The Child Health, Development and Education has an opening for a casual Research Assistant position located in Bunbury, Western Australia to join the Language in Little Ones study team. The position is federal research grant funded and supports the study Project Manager.

The amount of language stimulation from parent to child could be the key driver behind intergenerational inequality. Children learn language through social interaction and this study will significantly enhance our current understanding of exposure to language in the child’s home environment. The Language in Little Ones (LiLO) study will demonstrate how inequalities in the early years have far reaching consequences for later health and development.

The Role

  • Undertaking 60-90minute home visits with a cohort of approximately 60 families in the Bunbury region who need to be visited twice per year
  • Completing developmental assessments and questionnaires with the child and primary caregiver and dropping off specialised LENA equipment at each home visit
  • Picking up the LENA equipment at a time agreed to by each family
  • Carrying out data entry activities in a timely manner
  • Supporting the study manager, based in Adelaide, to ensure high retention rates of families

Your Experience

  • An undergraduate qualification in psychology, public health, allied health profession, nursing or a related degree
  • Experience working with families with young children
  • Current drivers licence and use of a privately owned, roadworthy vehicle for work-related travel
  • The ideal candidate will be organised, positive, reliable, hard-working, have good attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and can work independently

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
