Director, Wesfarmers Centre for Vaccines and Infectious Diseases

The Kids is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Director for the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, to be based at the new Perth Children’s Hospital, this role would be in conjunction with the successful incumbent having their own substantive position including an ongoing program of research.

The Opportunity

In this role you will be responsible for leading this multi-disciplinary Centre across its broad program of activity by providing strategic, academic and management leadership in addition to conducting your own research.

 This role is part-time for 3 years with a potential for renewal.

The Role

With the support of the management team of the Centre you will ensure that the Centre supports a broad program of research into childhood infectious diseases and vaccines, delivering outcomes that improve child health.  You will oversee the implementation of the Centre strategy, including developing a culture of collaboration, inclusivity and supporting the emergence of new research leaders.  Together with the Executive Director and the Development Team, you will also ensure that current and potential stakeholders are engaged in the work of the Centre and value its work whilst ensuring the Centre’s research program is of high international standard. You will provide strategic leadership, business acumen and management to ensure that the Centre becomes a centre of national and international renown.

This role is in addition to a substantive position that should include research in paediatric infectious diseases and/or vaccines and will be assumed over and above other substantive position duties. A flexible allocation for administrative and research support will be provided.

The Experience

The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in the following:

  • National and international reputation for research excellence in infectious diseases and/or vaccinology, with demonstrated impact of research outputs and success in obtaining competitive peer-reviewed research grants (relative to opportunity).
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic and academic leadership across a diverse research program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative research environment with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the personal, professional and academic development of staff and students and ability to supervise higher degree by research students.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate an independent stream of project funding.

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and Proof of working rights in Australia prior to commencement.
