Kimberley Aboriginal Health Post-doctoral Fellowships

Seeking two highly motivated and talented post-doctoral researchers to develop and lead a program of research

Field Fellowships in the Kimberley
The Kids Research Institute Australia is seeking two highly motivated and talented post-doctoral researchers to develop and lead a program of research in each of the following:

  1. Positive parenting and family support programs to prevent the transmission of intergenerational trauma, enhance child development and promote school readiness; and
  2. Youth resilience and coping skills to address high rates of depression, anxiety, suicide and self-harm

Based in the Kimberley, each of the fellowships is a full-time commitment for a period of three years.   These unique opportunities are designed to respond to requests from stakeholders and community members for research into parenting and family support and youth resilience at the Kimberley Aboriginal Child & Family Health Research Forum in 2016 and have since been reiterated.  The Forum Proceedings Report is available with the JDF.

It is essential that Kimberley Aboriginal communities and stakeholders are actively involved in all stages of research generated through these fellowships and participate in setting the focus and direction of the program of work.  Our key partners include the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services and member services.

Core responsibilities include: developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Aboriginal Elders, community members, relevant service providers, policy makers and community groups; building a program of research and individual research projects that contribute to the evidence of what works to improve outcomes for Kimberley Aboriginal children and youth; seeking additional funding through external granting schemes to support the research program; building the capability of community researchers; and translation of results through scientific papers, policy briefs,  and various stakeholder publications.
