Kimberley Post-doctoral Fellowship

The Opportunity

The Kids Research Institute Australia is seeking two highly motivated and talented post-doctoral researchers to develop and lead a program of research in improving the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal children and/or young adults in the Kimberley. The two positions are full time fixed term for 3 years.

The Role

Ideally based in the Kimberley, the post-doctoral fellowships are a full-time commitment for a period of three years.   These unique opportunities are designed to respond to requests from stakeholders and community members for research into parenting and family support and youth resilience that were made at the Kimberley Aboriginal Child & Family Health Research Forum in 2016.  The Forum Report is available with the Job Description.

It is essential that Kimberley Aboriginal communities and stakeholders are actively involved in all stages of research generated through these fellowships and participate in setting the focus and direction of the program of work.  Our key partners include the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services and member services.

Core responsibilities include: developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Aboriginal Elders, community members, relevant service providers, policy makers and community groups; building a program of research and individual research projects that contribute to the evidence of what works to improve outcomes for Kimberley Aboriginal children and youth with a particular focus on at risk populations; seeking additional funding through external granting schemes to support the research program; building the capability of community researchers; and translation of results through scientific papers, policy briefs,  and various stakeholder publications.

This project has a focus on capacity building in the Aboriginal community.  Persons of Aboriginal descent are encouraged to apply.

A suitable professional development plan, research support costs along with an attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidates.

These positions have been made possible by the philanthropic support of Chris and Tia Ellison and by Mineral Resources, a leading Australian based mining services and processing company. One fellowship will be named for the Ellisons and the other for Mineral Resources.
