The Opportunity
This position provides the successful appointee the opportunity to work within an experienced clinical trial research team. They will learn about all aspects of a clinical trial processing laboratory and will be given the chance to develop skills in study set up and management. In addition, working within The Kids and alongside other research groups, will provide many opportunities to keep up to date with the latest scientific research and topics of interest.
The Role
This position will work closely with the Clinical Lab Coordinator to improve the management of the Vaccine Trials Group's clinical laboratory enabling it to cope with the high number of clinical trials it is processing for, whilst ensuring high quality assurance at all times. Specifically, the main tasks covered include:
- Sample processing (including PBMC processing) and shipping for
- sponsored and non-sponsored clinical trial samples
- Liaise with trial sponsor representatives
- Develop and/or update SOPs or other study specific documentation
- according to study specific protocols manuals and communication,
- GCP guidelines, OTGR regulations and The Kids laboratory safety
- protocols.
- Maintain accurate databases, sample records, freezer catalogues and
- equipment maintenance documentation.
- Participate in daily, weekly and monthly laboratory maintenance tasks
- Assist Clinical Lab Coordinator with finance related tasks such as
- budget and invoice preparation when required.
- Consumable ordering when required
- Minute fortnightly meetings
- Internal quality assurance checks
Applicants should be aware that occasionally trials require laboratory staff to be on call after hours.
This is a Full Time role, for a fixed term of 12 months with the opportunity for extension.
Your Experience
Applicants must have at minimum, an undergraduate degree in biological sciences with Honours and working experience in a laboratory. The following skills and qualities would be an advantage:
- Experience in PBMC processing
- Sound knowledge and experience working within a PC2 laboratory
- Good academic transcript (please attach or make mention to in CV)
- Ability to work independently and develop collaborative working relationships with other team members.
- Experience in clinical trials
- Attention to detail
- Sound computer skills (Word/Outlook/Excel)
- Experience shipping biological samples
- Management experience
The successful candidate will be asked to provide a Working with Children’s Check and a satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
