Multiple Research Assistant positions - Respiratory Health Research

We have multiple positions available in child health research in the areas of asthma, cystic fibrosis, Aboriginal health and following preterm birth.

At The Kids Research Institute Australia (www.telethonkids.org.au), we are bringing together community, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and funders, to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.  The Children's Lung Health team is led by Professor Graham Hall and operates between the Institute and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. We have several major projects investigating children's lung disease, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, long term outcomes following preterm birth and Aboriginal lung health.

We have a number of positions, both full and part time, and are seeking dynamic Research Assistants. Individuals will be involved in a research programs that include lung function testing, cohort recruitment and working in a supportive team environment with a focus on working with children and young people.

This role will suit individuals with a passion for improving children's health who are able to work independently and comfortable in dealing with families, children and young people. Opportunities exist for suitably qualified and motivated individuals to develop their skills in a world class research environment.

We will consider applications from individuals wishing to work either full-time or part-time (>0.5 FTE). The duration of fixed term contracts will depend on the specific project role offered, but will range from 1-2 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Generous salary packaging is also available.

To be eligible for these roles, individuals should have a Bachelor of Science (Anatomy and Physiology, Health, Biomedical) or equivalent. An Honours degree or similar would be highly desirable.

  • Self-management and high personal motivation.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of lung function testing.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with families, children and young people of all ages, including experience in working with Aboriginal communities
  • Basic research skills including
    • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Endnote referencing and editing and other relevant software tools.
    • Experience with academic database search strategies and literature review process.
    • Writing skills, including capacity to summarize and communicate technical/clinical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
