Research Officer, Children's Lung Health

The Opportunity

At The Kids Research Institute Australia, we are bringing together community, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and funders, to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.  

The Children's Lung Health team is led by Professor Graham Hall and Dr Shannon Simpson and operates between The Kids Research Institute Australia and Perth Children's Hospital. Our group has several major ongoing projects investigating lung health in children and their families.  Our research aims to improve lung health in children with asthma, neuromuscular disease, cystic fibrosis, following preterm birth and Aboriginal lung health.

We are seeking a dynamic Research Officer to be involved a program of research in the area of neuromuscular disease conducted in partnership in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy WA and Stanford University, USA. 

The Role

This role will suit individuals with a passion for improving lung health in children and their families and in particular with the neuromuscular community. We are looking for forward thinking individuals who are able to work independently, are comfortable in dealing with families and children and who are looking to develop a career in children's lung health, particularly neuromuscular disease.

This full-time position is available for a fixed-term of three years, with the possibility of extension. Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Generous salary packaging is also available.

The Experience

To be eligible for these roles, individuals should have a PhD (Anatomy and Physiology, Health, Biomedical) or equivalent.

Your cover letter should specifically address your skills and experience in each of the following areas

  • · Demonstrated significant experience in respiratory physiology understanding and assessment
  • · Significant research expertise, including written and oral communication skills, working with research databases and critical appraisal skills
  • · Demonstrated ability to set goals, develop priorities and meet deadlines
  • · Experience in scientific paper preparation and submission such as grants and ethics applications
  • · Demonstrated capacity to work with families, children and young people of all ages.
  • · Experience in working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

The successful candidate will need to provide a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check before commencement.
