We are seeking an early career researcher whose research addresses drivers of deep and persistent disadvantage in childhood and/or adolescence.
The ARC Centre of Excellence (https://www.telethonkids.org.au/our-research/brain-and-behaviour/mental-health-and-youth/human-capability/lcc-projects/arc-centre-of-excellence-for-children-and-families-over-the-life-course/) for Children and Families over the Life Course (Life Course Centre or LCC) is a national centre funded by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence Scheme and administered through the University of Queensland, with nodes at The University of Western Australia, the University of Melbourne, and The University of Sydney.
You will be part of the Human Capability Team based at The Kids Research Institute Australia which conducts leading edge research in population child development, mental health and wellbeing, education, early childhood services and social services. We work closely with policy makers, service organisations, service providers and the community to improve outcomes for children and young people, especially children who experience deep and persistent disadvantage. Our research informs action to address the social determinants of inequalities in child development and address fundamental mechanisms that contribute to social inequalities and social gradients across a range of outcomes across the life course. Our team brings very specific and highly specialised collaborations, research networks and funding to key human development studies- most notably relevant to Australia.
As a member of the LCC UWA Node and Human Capability Team, you will have access to:

Key Requirements
Essential qualifications
- A PhD relevant to the Life Course Centre in in the disciplines of psychology, social sciences, public health or economics.
Essential skills, knowledge & experience
- An emergent track record as an independent researcher
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Presentations at national and international conferences
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with research colleagues and research partners in policy and practice settings
- Experience applying for external research funding
- Ability to represent and promote your research in policy and service settings and the community
Desired skills, knowledge and experience
- PhD supervision experience
- Research staff supervision experience

- Use of state-based administrative and/or national research data assets (e.g., Longitudinal Study of Australian Children)
Remuneration
This is a full-time fixed-term position (part time options will be considered) for two (2) years based at The Kids Research Institute Australia in Perth, Western Australia. A remuneration package $120-143K per annum which includes 17% superannuation.
The successful applicant is entitled to apply for Life Course Centre research funds to conduct new approved projects over the term of the grant. Funding for conference travel and professional development is available. The successful candidate will need to provide a National Police Check before commencement.
