Project Manager Pilbara FASD Prevention

Work with Aboriginal organisations, researchers & health promotion officers to develop, implement & evaluate strategies for FASD prevention in the Pilbara.

As the successful applicant you will:

  • Have demonstrated experience in the field of health promotion strategies or public health
  • Have demonstrated ability in managing complex teams working across multiple projects and sites to meet project timelines
  • Have an understanding of and respect for Aboriginal culture and experience with Aboriginal communities

The Pilbara FASD Project 2015-2019 is a multi-pronged FASD program that includes region-wide Prevention, Diagnosis, Intervention/Management and Community Capacity building projects. The Project team comprises ~6 research staff based in Perth and the Pilbara.
The Project Manager’s role is to work with Aboriginal organisations, researchers and health promotion officers to develop, implement and evaluate strategies for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) prevention in Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara. The Project Manager will manage the prevention team’s conduct of applied research, preparation of grant and ethics applications, publications and reports, and production of program materials. The Project Manager will:

  • Contribute to the conception and design of FASD prevention strategies and apply new ideas after appropriate consultation
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant and ethics applications
  • Manage development of FASD prevention strategies, materials, evaluation frameworks and databases
  • Manage the project budget and project staff based in Perth and the Pilbara.
  • Oversee data management to ensure data integrity and quality assurance. and data analysis and reports
  • Work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara to develop community informed and culturally secure FASD prevention strategies
  • Build networks with stakeholders, other researchers, policy makers and the community in relation to FASD Prevention Research in Aboriginal communities in the Pilbara
  • Work with the project team in the preparation of research papers for publication, presentations, reports, articles and other documentation
  • Support translating the FASD Prevention research findings into practice and policy


This project has a focus on working with Aboriginal organisations, researchers and health promotion officers to develop, implement and evaluate prevention strategies for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

This is a full time role for 12 months (full time base salary of between $82,000 and $88,500) with a strong possibility of extension for a further 2 years depending on performance.
