Research Communications Officer

The Opportunity

The Communications and Development team implements the Institute's overall communications, marketing and philanthropy strategies, as well as supporting researchers, teams and projects to promote their work and achievements.

We're looking for a hands-on Research Communications Officer to provide communications expertise to support and promote the work of two research programs at the Institute - the ORIGINS Project and the Respiratory Research Centre. This is a rare communication opportunity that would suit someone with a passion for research so you can use your skills to make a difference to child health.

The Role

The Research Communications Officer role is unique in that it interfaces between the communications and research teams to ensure effective communication and engagement strategies for a range of stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a communications, public relations or science communication degree with significant relevant work experience. We're looking for someone who is passionate about science and child health and is pro-active, hardworking, hands-on and a team player.

This is a part time (0.8 FTE) maximum term contract for 12 months. 

Your Experience

Our ideal candidate will be someone who has:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with complex research themes and language to make it accessible for a range of stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to network, negotiate and work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in producing print documents, videos, digital content, social media, events and the ability to implement innovative communication and engagement strategies
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard for an organisation that is making a real difference to kids and families
  • A positive can-do attitude and great relationship building skills
