Research Fellow - Ion Channel Biology and Biophysics

The Opportunity

The Oncogenic Signalling Laboratory is a collaborative group composed of clinical and lab-based researchers focused on the goal of improving outcomes for adults and children with brain tumours. Our research includes identifying mechanisms of cancer development, generation of appropriate models of these diseases, evaluation of novel therapeutics and translation of discoveries into the clinic. We offer an interesting job in a very motivated and dynamic team with a friendly working atmosphere.

The Role

The successful candidate will lead a research project analysing the role of ion channels in high grade brain cancer. They will perform high quality research, manage key collaborations and help establish an internationally competitive research program.

This is a full-time role fixed term for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Salary will be between $95,776 and $102,234 per annum, with access to generous salary packaging.

Experience

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD and strong track record in experimental medical research
  • International postdoctoral training
  • Superior attention to detail and meticulous approach to experimental work
  • Experience in ion channel biology with extensive knowledge of their biophysical characterisation (applicants without this experience will not be considered)
  • Knowledge of ion channel function within the brain
  • Experience in a range of standard laboratory techniques
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, data recording and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
  • Experience in responsible laboratory management including ordering, maintenance of records, troubleshooting; experience in laboratory occupational health and safety.

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and a “Working With Children’s Check” prior to commencement.
