Web/Database Developer

The Opportunity

We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with a breadth of technical skills to focus on the development of data capture, storage, and reporting systems with applications both within health care service delivery and health research. We have a number of exciting projects lined up where modern technologies (Microsoft .net, MVC, MSSQL, Angular) will be used to create web-based data management systems for well-defined clinical applications.

The Role

The successful applicant will be a full-stack developer keen to work within a small technical team, with day-to-day activities including:

  • contributing to solutions design (technology choice, structure, server requirements),
  • developing solutions (web interface design, database integration, report scripting),
  • solution completion (deployment, UAT design, bug fixing, maintenance),
  • contributing to system documentation, and
  • assisting with maintenance and administration of a limited number of other data related platforms, as required.

The position sits within our Data Services team (a part of our Biometrics unit) and will be filled by someone with the technical abilities and a personality that both complement the current team members and will be amenable to our clientele.

In this position, you will:

  • get to work with a wide range of colleagues from across the child health research campus, including IT staff, software developers, biostatisticians, students, researchers, nurses, and clinicians,
  • work on a specific shortlist of projects, but also be exposed to a wide range of projects from the Telethon Kid’s research focus areas, spanning autism, cancer, diabetes, lung health, mental health, perinatal outcomes, and more,
  • be engaged with both small and large projects.

A sound understanding of important system considerations like offline forms, the ability for users to save partially completed forms, the appropriate use of conditional logic, appropriate layouts (pages/section breakup), and the workflows for the rule-based handling of forms on submission, will be beneficial to the position.

This position has scope for continued learning and professional development, with a high likelihood of being extended beyond the original 12-month period.

Your Experience

The successful applicant will have the following Experience/Qualifications:

  • A qualification (e.g. degree, diploma or recognised equivalent) or the equivalent level of experience in a technology (database/web) based area (e.g. computer science, database analyst, business or information systems discipline etc).
  • Experience in the development of web-based applications using Microsoft .Net, MVC, WEB API, MSSQL and Angular
  • Experience with MySQL/MongoDb/other databases
  • Experience with Microsoft .Net tools, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code
  • Proficient knowledge in PHP, TypeScript, CSS, JSON, XML
  • Ability to analyse and understand existing applications and the suggest areas for improvement
  • Proven ability to both technically and operationally manage systems with layered administration
  • Strong documentation skills, and customer service focus
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, working independently and within a team-oriented environment

The successful candidate will be asked to provide a Working with Children’s Check and a satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
