Information for parents

Parents of Year 4-6 students are invited to complete a brief survey or take part in a focus group on digital technology use by their children.

We are conducting the Cyber Friendly Primary Schools Project to better understand schools’ and parents’ needs around children’s use of digital technology, and what information and support they would find helpful. This project will be developing resources to support parents, schools and P&C/P&F committees to promote positive digital technology use by children, with fewer risks to their safety, development, privacy and wellbeing.

You are invited to participate in the project if you are a parent or carer of a student in Years 4-6 currently attending a Western Australian primary school.

What is involved?

You can contribute to this research by participating in a brief online survey or a face-to-face focus group - or both!

Brief online survey

The online survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete. The information you provide will make sure the resources we develop include the information and support that parents and schools would find helpful.

Please read the Parent Information Form for more information on the project and decide if you would like to participate. You do not have to participate in the survey if you do not want to - it is entirely up to you. Your participation in this project will not impact your child’s grades, or your or their relationship with their teacher(s), or with the school or with The Kids Research Institute Australia.

If you are happy to participate, complete the Parent Survey here.

As a thank you for giving up your time to participate, you will be asked to enter your name at the end of the survey to enter a draw to win a $100 gift voucher. Your details will ONLY be used for the prize draw and will NOT be linked to your survey responses.

Focus Group

We are also conducting a group discussion (focus group) with parents or carers of students in Years 4-6. The information discussed in the focus groups will ensure the resources we develop include the information and support that parents and schools would find helpful.

Each focus group will take one hour and be scheduled for a time most suitable to our parent participants. Child care will also be available to parents during this time.

If you are interested or would like more information about the focus groups, please read the Parent Information Form.

To express your interest in participating in a parent focus group please provide your contact details here.

You do not have to participate in this project if you do not want to - it is entirely up to you. Your participation in this project will not impact your child’s grades, or your or their relationship with their teacher(s), or with the school or with The Kids Research Institute Australia.
