Lisa Kickett

Lisa has a wealth of experience working across the mental health sector.  This includes clinical experience, case management, and client advocacy within Aboriginal child and adolescent mental health, youth work, and adult mental health. Within Lisa’s previous roles as an Aboriginal mental health worker & Health Promotion Coordinator, she has gained extensive experience in community outreach and engagement to provide mental health awareness, education and Child health programs.  This also included management responsibilities and program reporting.

Alongside working on the Cultural Safety project, Lisa is currently completing a Master of Social Work (Qualifying) at Curtin University. Lisa is keen to develop her research skills and work towards changing how mainstream mental health systems can become more culturally appropriate and effective for Aboriginal people.

Projects

Building a culturally safe mental health system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people

The impact of colonisation, genocide, and continuing discriminatory policies have created a context for ongoing disadvantage, trauma, and high rates of mental health issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
