Fiona started with The Kids Research Institute Australia in July 2021, taking on the new role of Senior Advisor Government Relations.
Fiona has worked in the State Government sector for over 25 years, including a period of 5 years leading the science portfolio for Government. During this time, she worked closely with the Minister for Science and WA’s Chief Scientist, Professor Peter Klinken, on initiatives such as the State STEM Strategy and the Premier’s Science Awards.
Fiona brings an enhanced level of coordination and strategic oversight to The Kids Research Institute Australia's engagement with Government, at both a State and Federal level. Her experience means she understands what researchers are seeking when it comes to funding and support, with Fiona well-placed to strengthen the Institute’s communications with Government and approach to navigating processes. Fiona also works closely with the Tenders Support Unit, to facilitate the Institute's role as a leading contract research partner to government agencies.
Outside of work, Fiona is married and has 3 children, Katherine, Nicholas and Maddy, an ageing beagle called Molly, and two cats that rule the entire household (Astro and Ally).
