2007 Fiona Stanley Award presented to Kerry Stokes

The 2007 Fiona Stanley Award has been presented to Mr Kerry Stokes AO in recognition of his outstanding contribution to child health research.

Professor Stanley announced the award at a function at The Kids for Child Health Research this week.

Professor Stanley said Mr Stokes had been a strong supporter of the Institute since its inception, and chaired the first capital fundraising campaign in 1994.

"Kerry Stokes has made a major contribution to the success of this Institute through his philanthropic leadership, his support of Telethon and by substantial personal donations," Professor Stanley said.

"But just as significantly, he has given wise counsel on a range of issues and we value his continued interest and involvement.

"He has a very deep understanding of our research and the impact that good quality science and evidence can have in improving outcomes for young Australians."

Professor Stanley said she was overwhelmed by the surprise announcement at Telethon on Sunday night that Mr Stokes' Australian Capital Equity would provide a grant of $1million dollars for Aboriginal and Environmental child health research at the Institute.

Previous winners of the award include Michael Wooldridge, Peter Wills, Alan Robson , Annette Stoke, Geoff Cattach and Michael Chaney.
