The Kids Research Institute Australia researcher awarded support funding

A Telethon Kids Institute researcher has been awarded $10,000 from the New Independent Researcher Infrastructure Support (NIRIS) award.

A Telethon Kids Institute researcher has been awarded $10,000 in State Government research support funding.

Immunisation and infectious disease researcher Dr Tom Snelling was one of seven to receive the New Independent Researcher Infrastructure Support (NIRIS) award.

The NIRIS award is designed to help new researchers meet the infrastructure costs of their work.

Dr Snelling is the team leader of the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, which looks at how to make existing treatments and vaccines as effective as possible in treating and preventing infection in children.

He is currently working on a randomised controlled trial of the treatment of gastroenteritis in Aboriginal children in the Northern Territory.

Dr Snelling says this award will help to cover the costs of collaborator meetings, stakeholder meetings and travel of Telethon-based study investigators and research staff for this project.
