You Are What You Breathe
Challenging Western Australians to ensure healthy air for all children
During our lifetimes we will breathe about 250 million litres of air weighing about 300,000 kg. This air carries poisons from fossil fuels, ozone, and also from a multitude of modern indoor pollutants. If the equivalent level of poisons in our air was present in our water supply, there would be community demands for urgent action. The air we breathe causes more than respiratory diseases; it can cause heart disease, cancer, mental ill health, obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases. How can we prevent this and protect our children?
Professor Holgate has published more than 1,000 papers in peer reviewed journals. His work has been recognised with a Scientific Achievement Award of the IAACI, the Rhône-Poulenc Rorer World Health Award, the King Faisal International Prize in Medicine, the Czech Republic Medical Society Medal for Scientific Achievement, the Ellison-Cliffe Medal of the Royal Society of Medicine, the Quintiles Prize in Immunopharmacology, and the Commander of the Order of the British Empire for contributions to clinical science, amongst many other awards and distinctions.
Professor Holgate is a captivating speaker who will make a compelling argument about how the air we breathe affects so much more than our lungs!
