NHMRC Fellowships awarded to support child health research

Four leading The Kids Research Institute Australia researchers have been awarded Fellowships from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Four leading The Kids Research Institute Australia researchers have been awarded Fellowships from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The NHMRC Fellowships, which are awarded once a year, were announced today by the Minister for Health, the Hon Sussan Ley.

The successful The Kids Research Institute Australia fellowship recipients:

  • James Fitzpatrick - NHMRC Early Career Fellowship: Implementing and evaluating pragmatic strategies to Prevent Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (PAE), and Treat Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)
  • Professor Donna Cross - NHMRC Research Fellowship: Innovative school-based interventions to improve mental health and the social and emotional development of Australian children
  • Professor Helen Leonard - NHMRC Research Fellowship: Child disability: understanding determinants and improving outcomes
  • Professor Steve Stick - NHMRC Practitioner Fellowship

The Kids Research Institute Australia Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis said the Institute was pleased that these outstanding researchers have been recognised at a national level.  

"This is fantastic news for our researchers and will enable them to continue the incredibly important work they do to improve the lives of kids," Professor Carapetis said.

"Their success in this highly competitive process really highlights the quality of research being done here at The Kids Research Institute Australia."

"The Kids Research Institute Australia is committed to conducting research that makes a difference and these fellowships will fund vital research into a broad range of child health areas, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, bullying, disability and cystic fibrosis."
