The Kids Research Institute Australia and Curtin University will work together as part of a new agreement focused on enhancing children’s health and medical research in Western Australia.

The affiliation agreement, signed last night, sets out the framework for the establishment of a cooperative and collaborative relationship between WA’s largest university and the State’s only child health research institute.

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted to announce the new agreement because it signalled a new era for children’s health research in WA.

“This agreement will promote collaborative efforts between Curtin University and The Kids Research Institute Australia with the aim of growing research and enhancing research training for the benefit of children, adolescents, families and the wider community,” Professor Terry said.

“Both organisations share common goals of high-quality research and training to deliver tangible health benefits and a commitment to advocate on behalf of research to society, so this agreement will only strengthen our resolve to make a real difference to people’s lives.”

“Our new affiliation with Curtin University will enhance health and medical research excellence in Western Australia and promote collaborative efforts between our two organisations to enable growth of research activities, research training and translation of research for the benefit of all families and children,” Professor Carapetis said.

Under the affiliation agreement, The Kids Research Institute Australia researchers will be eligible to hold Adjunct appointments at Curtin University and Curtin University researchers will also be eligible for honorary appointments at The Kids Research Institute Australia.

The new agreement was signed by Professor Terry and Professor Carapetis at Curtin St George’s Terrace on 23 January 2018.
