Hundreds of delegates from around Australia, Canada and New Zealand arrive in Perth this week to discuss the latest knowledge about fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) at the 2nd Australasian FASD Conference 2018.

Hosted by the FASD Research Australia Centre of Research Excellence – whose Western Australian hub is led by Professor Carol Bower at The Kids Research Institute Australia – the two-day conference will see leading international FASD researchers take the stage alongside health, justice and education sector professionals, as well as families, carers, and advocates for people with FASD.

Professor Bower said the conference theme – Our Science Our Stories – gave scientists and community members equal billing, highlighting the strong partnership that exists between researchers, practitioners and families in the FASD field.

“The inclusion of community members is a very strong focus, because it’s only by involving them, understanding their experiences, and hearing what they need that researchers and policymakers can really get it right when addressing FASD,” Professor Bower said.
