Over 1000 Year 7 and 8 students from Churchlands Senior High School laced up their running shoes yesterday for their annual Fun Run raising money for the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases.
Students begun fundraising for the Centre in 2015, totalling an impressive $30,000 raised over the past five years.
Organised by Chris Van Maanen, the school’s Head of Department for Health and Physical Education, the 5km run is held each year in support of a local WA charity.
“Choosing to support the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases based at The Kids Research Institute Australia really struck a chord with us as many of our students and their families will benefit from the research taking place there,” said Mr Van Maanen.
The money raised by Churchlands students has allowed the Centre to further its research into developing world-first vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus and group A streptococcus, evaluating meningococcal vaccines to ensure high-risk age groups have maximum protection, and finding new treatments for children with middle ear infections.
A big thank you goes out to all staff and students for your generous support over the past five years.
