The Kids Research Institute Australia welcomes “top-up” funding for Medical Research Future Fund

Perth’s The Kids Research Institute Australia has welcomed a major funding boost for the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

Perth’s The Kids Research Institute Australia has welcomed a major funding boost for the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

The Commonwealth has announced an additional $172.5 million to supplement the MRFF in 2021-22 after the fund was hit hard by the historic low RBA cash rate.

The Kids Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis said the top-up funding for the MRFF was a boost not only for the medical research sector but also for the families and children whose health future relied on research.

“The MRFF is supporting transformative medical research in Australia and this additional funding will allow that vital work to continue and grow,” Professor Carapetis said.

“The work being funded by the MRFF has the potential to change lives but will also ensure our best and brightest researchers stay in Australia to help us tackle some of the big health problems facing us as a nation.”

The extra funding means $627.5 million will be available for medical research in 2021-22.
