INSPIRE Consumer Reference Group of WA

Inviting expressions of interest for the INSPIRE Consumer Reference Group (CRG) of WA – a combined group for the BREATH and Aboriginal Children’s Excellent (ACE) Lung Health studies.

INSPIRE stands for INnovative Solutions and Partnerships for Indigenous Respiratory Excellence.

This is a group for parents of Aboriginal children who have, or have had lung sickness. The group wants to:

  • Support the development of partnerships between families, researchers, The Kids and Perth Children’s Hospital.
  • Give a family perspective to both medical and research aspects of lung sickness
  • Improve the quality and relevance of healthcare and research through family involvement.

Key duties:

  • Attend meetings every 4 months. (located in Perth, but teleconferencing available for regional and remote families)
  • Give advice and expertise on family needs and views about research and health care
  • Share information from the CRG to relevant community groups when needed
  • Help contribute to and report on family participation activities
  • Advise on language and content of study information sheets
  • Provide feedback on the impact of research projects in communities and ways to do research well from a community perspective
  • Share ideas on areas that you or your community would like the team to consider researching.

Support

  • Free training will be provided for members on the role for the group
  • The Terms of Reference is available and outlines the purpose and structure of the group.

CRG Chair

  • The group is chaired by Ms Timeah Archer, with support provided by Mikayla Garstone and Erica Thompson from The Kids Research Institute Australia.
