Abstract
This exciting new edition includes several new chapters that deliver an even more robust and high quality resource. It examines issues across the life course, with a greater focus on children and young people; the significant impacts of mental health in the justice system; the cultural determinants of social and emotional wellbeing and intellectual and development disabilities. It includes holistic models of care, as well as interdisciplinary and inter-professional approaches and working with carers.
It is now published and freely available online, with the hard copy currently in press. The book (online and hardcopy) is funded through the Australian Government Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and endorsed by the Hon Senator Scullion, Minister for Indigenous Affairs.
The book was developed as an information source for health professionals working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with social and emotional wellbeing. The book contains comprehensive and culturally appropriate information to education and assist health professionals who work with Indigenous clients.
The first edition of this book on social and emotional wellbeing, Working Together: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health and Wellbeing Principles and Practice, edited by Nola Purdie, Pat Dudgeon and Roz Walker was released in July 2010. It was developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research and the Kulunga Research Network, The Kids for Child Health Research with funding through the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. The book offers a high quality, comprehensive examination of issues and strategies influencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health and social and emotional wellbeing.
