The Autism Register collects information about new diagnoses of autism spectrum conditions in Western Australia. For each person receiving a new diagnosis, some demographic and assessment information is collected. This information helps us to understand how many people receive a diagnosis, what features they have in common and trends over time. Since 2017 the WA Register has transitioned to an ‘Online' Autism Register. The WA Autism Register was created with the purpose of knowing how many children are diagnosed in WA each year and increasing our knowledge of ASD
Some of the uses of the Autism Register include:
- Research (using its own data, and for linking interested families with current projects).
- Understanding characteristics that are shared across everyone with a diagnosis
- Help in planning for appropriate services, including health, education and disability.
The Autism Register for Autism Spectrum Conditions is the first register of its kind in Australia. The Register has collected information on newly diagnosed cases of Autism Spectrum Conditions in Western Australia since 1999.
