Developing and characterising juvenile models of aggressive paediatric brain cancers for the evaluation of novel immunotherapies

Investigators: Iley Johnson, Nick Gottardo, Omar Elaskalani, Raelene Endersby, Terry Johns, Zahra Abbas

Project description

While profound treatment responses have been realised using immunotherapy for some cancer types, this is yet to be seen for paediatric brain cancer patients. This is partially because the immune system of the brain is very different to that of the rest of the body. We have also identified a large gap in knowledge around development of the brains immune system during childhood and childhood tumours. In this project, we are pioneering novel ways to mimic childhood brain cancer and uncover previously unknown avenues to harness the immune system for therapy.
