Project description
Pregnancy marks the transition from childlessness to parenthood, and provides an opportunity for parents-to-be to prepare, research and reflect. How well expectant parents handle the uncertainty of this liminal state may set the scene for a successful transition to parenting. We wish to explore expectant parents' experience of the state of waiting, and try to identify social, cultural or informational factors which support them in managing the liminal state and preparing for their new role. We will interview first-time expectant parents and new parents of varying cultural backgrounds in order to identify potential avenues for supporting expectant families in their transition to parenthood.
