Profiling the Longitudinal Development of Babbling in Infants with Cerebral Palsy: Validation of the Infant Monitor of Vocal Production (IMP) Using the Stark Assessment of Early Vocal Development-Revised (SAEVD-R)

We compared early vocal development in children "at risk" for cerebral palsy (CP) with typically developing (TD) infants aged 6 to 15 months using the SAEVD-R, investigating potential pre-linguistic markers of communication impairment. Additionally, we sought to examine the agreement between the SAEVD-R and IMP, which uses parent report, in identifying departure from typical vocal development in at-risk infants.

Novel intranasal phage-CaEDTA-ceftazidime/avibactam triple combination therapy demonstrates remarkable efficacy in treating Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection

Given the rise of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, alternative treatments are needed. Anti-pseudomonal phage therapy shows promise, but its clinical application is limited due to the development of resistance and a lack of biofilm penetration.

Surfactant delivery by aerosol inhalation – past, present, and future

Surfactant replacement therapy by nebulization to spontaneously breathing patients has been regarded as the Holy Grail since surfactant deficiency was first identified as the cause for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. It avoids neonatal endotracheal intubation, a procedure that is often difficult and occasionally harmful.

Research

The effectiveness of community friendship groups on participant social and mental health: a meta-analysis

Social disconnectedness and isolation are risk factors for poor mental health. Community-based friendship group interventions have been designed to increase an individual's social capital and consequently their mental wellbeing. Structured and unstructured friendship groups reflect two distinct approaches to friendship group interventions.

Evolving Trends of Gastrostomy Insertion Within a Pediatric Population

New gastrostomy insertion among children who require long-term enteral feeding support increased over the study period

Research

Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention during pregnancy and lactation: forget not the women and children

The framework for appropriately identifying and managing at-risk pregnant and lactating women requiring PrEP is poorly defined

Research

Moraxella catarrhalis Restriction-Modification Systems Are Associated with Phylogenetic Lineage and Disease

We observed an association between Type III DNA methyltransferase presence and Otitis Media-associated middle ear isolates

Research

Basophil counts in PBMC populations during childhood acute wheeze/asthma are associated with future exacerbations

Our findings suggest that the proportion of degranulated basophils can also be associated with recurrent exacerbations

Research

Increased prevalence of expiratory flow limitation during exercise in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia

Expiratory flow limitation is more prevalent in children born preterm with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and is associated with airway obstruction

Research

Australian researchers oppose funding from the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World

Research and research funding must be independent of the tobacco industry, which continues to cause so much suffering
