The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced molecular microbiologist to lead a commercial collaboration between The Kids Research Institute Australia and a private pharmaceutical company (Industry Partner).
The Role
The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for setting the direction and leading a collaborative research program, jointly between The Kids Research Institute Australia and their commercial partner. They will be required to foster high-quality innovative joint research activities and will be expected to lead the development of an internationally competitive and high calibre program of research. It is expected that this role will supervise a number of research staff working on the commercial collaboration.
The position is full time, initially for a 12-month period with the possibility of extension depending on securing future funding.
Your Experience
The Kids Research Institute Australia are looking to recruit a Microbiologist with 10+ years experience in Microbiology (or an equivalent discipline) and with a strong track record of outstanding research leadership.
The candidate will ideally have recent experience working in a commercial environment, either directly for, or in collaboration with, a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.
The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:
- High level of strategic thinking in relation to both scientific and organisational matters
- Exceptional leadership skills and sound organisational abilities
- Proven experience in building a substantial body of research whose outcomes are published in high-ranking journals
- Excellent communication skills for written reports and oral presentations.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques and the manipulation of peptides and proteins
- Experience with antimicrobial drug discovery including but not limited to, antimicrobial assays
- Familiarity with genomics and bioinformatics analysis technologies, including next generation sequencing methodology
- Experience with microbiological techniques as well as with mammalian cell assays
- Demonstrated capacity to work co-cooperatively with Executive Management of a research organisation
