Dr. Lydia Braunack-Mayer is a Senior Research Consultant at The Kids and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Based in Switzerland, she collaborates with Melissa and her team to evaluate the impact of multistage malaria vaccines and treatment combinations.
Lydia specialises in biostatistics and mathematical modelling for infectious diseases, with seven years of experience in using data to inform decisions in global health. She has contributed to multiple research projects focused on estimating the public health impact of vaccines and drugs for malaria prevention. Beyond malaria, she has applied statistical and modelling techniques to a range of infectious diseases, including sexually transmitted infections, mpox, and common viruses. Her expertise spans both research and industry, having worked as a consultant in the health sector before completing a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Beyond her research, Lydia is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion. She has supported multiple organisations in developing policies, practices, and metrics to promote equitable and inclusive workplaces.
Lydia holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and University of Basel, Switzerland, a Master of Science in Statistics from ETH Zürich Switzerland, and both a Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences in Statistics and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Adelaide, Australia. She is also the recipient of the 2015 Commonwealth Bank John Monash Scholarship, a program that supports outstanding Australians to study abroad.
