Empowering Youth Wellbeing Through the Arts. Learn how SEW-Arts supports the social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) of young people through arts programs.

What is SEW-Arts?

The SEW-Arts Project is dedicated to empowering arts organisations and professionals to enhance the social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) of young people through their programs. By offering the SEW-Arts Framework—a strength-based, adaptable tool—the project provides key messages, teaching methods, and reflective processes to help integrate SEWB into creative practices. Its aim is to foster environments where young people can thrive emotionally, socially, and creatively.

Conducted by The Kids Research Institute Australia with funding from Healthway and in partnership with Edith Cowan University (ECU), the SEW-Arts Project was developed with advisory support from the West Australian Ballet, the WA Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCo), and the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AgWA).

How to navigate this project

So, how do you navigate this project?

You can start where you like!

If you like theories and research, check out the About section. However, if you are super practical and like to ‘think through doing’, skip over these and go to the SEW-Arts Framework. This is where the results of a previous project are described and how these can be used to support a focus on SEWB in your organisation.

Explore the SEW-Arts Framework

A great resource for organisations to have the language and the understanding of social and emotional wellbeing. The most valuable for us were the summarised wellbeing factor cards. These short summaries were so useful as we could find our own way with them.
