Dr Passmore is an early career researcher whose research, translation and impact has received international recognition in the justice, criminology, health, and disability fields. Dr Passmore’s research focuses on the development and administration of novel ways to support young people with neurodisabilities such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Dr Passmore is currently the go-to person in Australia for staff training within the justice sector related to FASD and other neurodisabilities, having pioneered an empirically and clinically-grounded training intervention (Reframe Training) to upskill frontline professionals in the management and support of young people with neurodisabilities. Dr Passmore has independently delivered Reframe Training to over 800 justice and community services professionals across Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. She has received training requests from education, police, community services, justice, health, and disability sectors across Australia and internationally.

In 2020, Dr Passmore was awarded a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to explore international approaches to supporting justice-involved young people with neurodisabilities, with the aim to share and adapt that knowledge for local use in Australia. Dr Passmore has receive multiple awards, including the 2022 7News WA Young Achiever Spirit Super Create Change Award, a Finalist in the 2021 Western Australian of the Year Awards (Youth category), a 2021 AMP Tomorrow Maker and a WA Finalist for the 2022 Young Australian of the Year.

Prior to her research career, Dr Passmore worked and volunteered for a non-government organisation managing and facilitating family support programs for vulnerable and disadvantaged families across the state of Western Australia, including women in prison and their children.

Neuropsychological profiles of adolescents sentenced to detention in Western Australia with and without prenatal alcohol exposure

Youth with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) are under-recognised in the justice system, warranting improved identification. This study aimed to compare neuropsychological profiles of adolescents, with and without PAE and identify neuropsychological tasks predictive of PAE-group membership. It was hypothesised that participants with PAE would score significantly lower on neuropsychological tests.
